Jesuit Martyrs Medal with Pearls
This charming little piece for young ladies showcases a tiny silver medal from France, measuring just over 7.5" in diameter, including the bail. Necklace is 14" in length and finished with a sterling spring ring closure. The medal pictures Blessed Father Jean de Brebeuf and Holy Jesuit Martyrs. Obverse pictures Blessed Father Isdaac Jogues and Holy Jesuit martyrs. In the 1600's, Jesuits of French origin did considerable missionary work among the Indians of North America, chiefly in what is now Quebec and in upper New York State. Some of them were killed. They are remembered collectively on October 19. Medal is from France, circa 1930. I have hand knotted it using deep gray charcoal 5mm top drilled pearls.
