You, Butterfly!

It is so hard to capture a busy butterfly in photo. This beauty graciously allowed me to take her picture as she darted in and around the bush and the bumblebees. I must have snapped the camera at least a hundred times while she gathered her treasure. What a bother I was! In spite of my intrusion into her world, she maintained her composure and continued in hunter/gatherer mode.
It's funny how a photo will carry you back in time to a memory secured in the bank vaults of your brain. While stationed in Thailand over 40 years ago, I must have heard the phrase, "You, butterfly," spoken a hundred times by the Thai people. It was another way of saying that male soldiers were always on the prowl, looking for their next female companion.
Much the same as the butterfly flits and darts around the garden, we move in and out of relationship with the same resolve as the butterfly, simply to fulfill our need for variety in our connections to people. I have to admit that I am still a butterfly - a hunter/gatherer of eclectic personalities. Variety is truly the spice of life. Each day, I try to add new friends to my flower garden!
